Self-Paced Courses

Courses to enter at any hour, and to keep without end — for those who require solitude, rhythm, and return.

Every student receives the Companion Films — Phantom Islands · Trailers · Homo Sapiens Project (200) — to download and own

FEES — €200 PER COURSE · LIFETIME ACCESS
“This course has put form on the type of thinking and feeling I have wanted to engage with around filmmaking… you continued to dance the lines between the intellectual, creative, insightful, thoughtful and vulnerable in a way that is rarely done.”— Bonnie Boyle

Each is recorded in full: its lectures, texts, viewings, exercises, and resources, to be entered slowly, independently, and as many times as you wish. Bought once, the whole of it is yours — to move through in your own order, at your own pace, and to return to for as long as its questions stay alive in you.

Study here is a private discipline: a sustained encounter with cinema that unfolds in your own time, without losing intensity or direction. No schedule, no room to be in, no hour to keep. The descent, taken alone.

The courses currently open for enrolment are listed below.

In Their Words

“Each session was expanding one’s mind, consciousness and vision. The philosophy and depths are endless and limitless — infinity of creation, deleting pressure, and exploration of the senses.”

— Eline Farideh Koning

“It confirmed for me that enrolling in this course was one of the best choices I could have made — and the curriculum I’ve needed for so long.”

— Ming-Zhu Hii

“I will be sitting with this course material for months and years to come. I also intend to continue to learn from you in the future.”

— Morgan Kulas
The Foundations of This Teaching

All teaching at EFS Film School stands on three foundations:

I — THE FEATURE FILMS
A body of feature films, 2009 onwards — cinema conceived as a way of life, made in complete creative freedom. The feature films →
II — THE HOMO SAPIENS PROJECT
The film-diary kept since 2000 — offered within the teaching not as finished work to be admired, but as an open laboratory, entire. The project →
III — THE EXPERIMENTAL FILM SOCIETY
Founded, directed, and curated by Rashidi since 2000 — over two decades of making, curating, publishing, and sustaining a collective practice, from which both the filmmaking and the teaching descend. That history is documented in the Society’s publications, including Luminous Void: Twenty Years of Experimental Film Society. The Society →  ·  The books →
